Day 1 (03/06) Osh – Tolparkul

Meet the group in the morning and drive from Osh to Tolparkul Lake. The road will go along amazing mountains and high passes. On the way you will drive over a high mountain pass – Taldik (3615 m). After an adventurous drive you will arrive at the picturesque Tolparkol Lake, surrounded by stunning mountain scenery.

This stop is also necessary for an altitude acclimatization.

Here, you can partake in a variety of activities such as hiking, or simply relaxing by the tranquil waters. As evening approaches, immerse yourself in the local culture by spending the night in a traditional yurtstay at Tolparkul Lake. The cozy yurts provide a unique and authentic experience that allows you to truly connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of this remote location under the starlit sky.

Day 2 (04/06) Tolparkul – Karakul – Murgab

In the morning you will be transferred to the Tajik border. Meet your Tajik crew and drive to Murgab. Right on the highway of the Pamir Tract is situated the light-blue lake of Karakul (3,815 m), the name of which can be translated as “The Black Lake”. Karakul is the highest large mountain lake of the world, excluding those in Tibet and Titicaca.

The lake is situated in a meteorite crater and surrounded by swampy and wet meadows and bogs with a rich flora and fauna and several endemic species. We will continue driving along the legendary Pamir Highway. On the way, you will pass over the Ak-Baital pass (4655 m).

Day 3 (05/06) Murgab – Bulunkul – Langar

In the morning, drive to Bulunkul Lake along the Pamir Highway, stopping at the Shorbulak observatory and Shakhty cave. Bulunkul, located at 3,700 meters in the Murghab region, is known for its stunning purple and blue waters. Continue through the Khargush Valley, crossing the Khargush Pass (4344 m), to the Wakhan Corridor.

This historic region separates Tajikistan from Pakistan and is bordered by China and Afghanistan, with the Pamir and Hindu Kush ranges framing the landscape. In the afternoon, explore the local villages on your own.

Day 4 (06/06) Langar – Ishkashim

We will continue toward the Wakhan Valley, known as the “Roof of the World” for its majestic snow-capped mountains, clear lakes, wide valleys, and deserts. Along the way, stop at Vrang village to explore a 4th-7th century Buddhist complex. In Yamg, visit the reconstructed house of Sufi mystic Mubarak Kadam, featuring a stone pillar he used to calculate the solar calendar.

Further on, detour to the Yamchun fortresses and the Bibi Fatima hot spring. We’ll also stop at the Kah-Kakha fortress from the 3rd century, offering stunning views of the Afghan side of the Wakhan.

Day 5 (07/06) Ishkashim – Khorog

In the morning we’ll make a special visit to the Afghan market operating only of Saturdays between the two borders.

Then we’ll drive along the Tajik-Afghan border to Khorog, with a side trip to Garm Chashma hot spring, located 2,325m above sea level on the western slope of the Shohdara mountains. In the afternoon, explore Khorog, one of the world’s smallest cities.

Visit the Pamir Botanical Garden, situated at 2,320m on the Shakhdara River, home to unique plants from around the world, with ongoing efforts to adapt them to mountain conditions.

Day 6 (08/06) Khorog – Kalai Khum

In the morning, hike down to the main road where your driver will pick you up and take you to Kalai Khum. This area features towering mountains over 6,000 meters, with only one road cutting through the landscape. Traveling through the Pamirs offers a chance to admire untouched nature and learn about the history, culture, and daily lives of the highlanders.

Along the way, stop at small villages to meet locals and observe their way of life. Across the river, you’ll see rocky Afghan villages and gardens nestled in narrow valleys.

Day 7 (09/06) Kalai Khum – Dushanbe

Today we will drive to Dushanbe via Kulob city, enjoying scenic landscapes along the way. From Kalai Khum, the route follows the Panj River, the natural border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, offering stunning views of the Pamir Mountains and terraced fields. The Pamirs, often called the “ocean of blue and white mountains,” have inspired explorers like Marco Polo and Xuan Zang.

The journey’s highest point is Shurobod Pass (2267 m). You’ll also see the Norak reservoir, created by the Norak dam on the Vakhsh River, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views.

Day 8 (10/06) Dushanbe

The entire day is dedicated to a delightful and informative guided city tour. Your first stop will be at Somoni Square, where the vibrant energy of the city surrounds you. From there, embark on a journey through the heart of the capital, starting with a visit to the impressive new Parliament house that stands as a symbol of Tajikistan’s governance.

As you continue your exploration, make sure to take in the serene beauty of Rudaki Park, The National House, National Library and other administrative buildings will captivate you with their architectural splendor. One highlight not to miss is the towering National Flagpole, proudly standing as one of the tallest in the world at 165 meters high. Its sheer magnitude – 30 meters wide and 60 meters long – is truly awe inspiring. Adjacent to this landmark is the Central Museum where you can delve into Tajikistan’s rich history and cultural heritage.

Also, you will visit the Independent Tower. The tower stands as a symbol of independence and strength, serving as a beacon of resilience in the city skyline. To truly embrace local life, venture into Asian bazar bustling with colorful goods, fresh fruits, and vegetables that tantalize your senses.

Accommodation Note

In the mountainous regions of Tajikistan, you will stay in authentic local homes rather than accommodations designed for tourists. These traditional houses typically have 3-4 rooms, and instead of beds, thick mattresses are provided for sleeping. Each room accommodates 3-4 guests. In village homes, the toilet and shower facilities are located in the garden.

Single occupancy supplement is possible only for hotel stays during the last four nights in Khorog, Kalai Kum and Dushanbe. The cost is 190 EUR per person.
