[FULL] (18-23/2 2025) Kufra, Libya

30 December, 2024 | Blog, Tours

Ho-ho-ho NomadManians! Whether you have celebrated Christmas or not, our very own NomadMania Santa has a special trip message for you that we thought would be a welcome surprise.

We are delighted to announce a trip to the least visited NomadMania region – yes, the one least visited of all our 1301. That’s to Libya – Cyrenaica – Kufra, where only 20 of our community claim to have been.

Kufra has a unique history – it didn’t become populated by Arab Bedouins until the mid 19th century. It then fell to the Italians in 1931 following the famous Battle of Kufra. It subsequently became a garrison town – much like what it remains today – but switched hands when the British took over after defeating the Italians in WWII.

Here are the details of this trip. We will only be taking 5 travellers on this first attempt, so make sure you board this one before the new year begins!

Itinerary

February 18 – Day 1. Arrival in Benghazi. Turkish Airlines is starting a new service which conveniently flies into Benghazi in the morning. Alternatively, Egyptair has a flight or we can help booking flights on the local Berniq Air from Tunis or Istanbul. Spend the day relaxing in Eastern Libya’s biggest city. Short city tour by car. Good food is guaranteed. Benghazi will surprise you!

February 19 – Road trip to Kufra. This is a long trip through the endless desert, estimated at around 12-13 hours, so we will leave very early. Frequent stops and a desert ambience, along with good company, should make it all very pleasant indeed.

February 20 & 21 – Kufra. We will be exploring the small town and the area around it including war cemeteries and desert mountains. The exact sights to be explored will be defined closer to the time, but we expect a full desert adventure! We will be staying in Kufra itself.

February 22 – Return to Benghazi. Another long drive expected.

February 23 – Departure or stay on! Turkish Airlines or Egyptair leave at a convenient time.

Alternatively, if you wish to explore the coast of Eastern Libya including the extremely impressive WHS of Cyrenaica and Apollonia, the city of Derna, or Tobruk, or have a longer stay in Benghazi, this is all doable; the details will depend on participation.

**Note 2: We will only take 5 people on this. In the event of high demand in the first 72 hours after publishing, NomadMania will consider:
