We are known for often asking your opinion on travel issues – possibly our most famous polls were our 2022 detailed questions on ‘What is a visit’ which helped define our rules on what we consider a legitimate visit to a NomadMania region. Earlier this year, many of you gave us your input which helped us improve our UN Masterlist, which now includes 1381 regions.
We have decided to go a step further by introducing our Ultimate Country Polls. These will ask what you think of various attributes of UN countries and will be used to create reports which reflect the opinions of the NomadMania community – we believe that these will be especially interesting for all and could eventually result in academic pieces of research as case studies.
Do the NomadMania community agree or disagree with generally held opinions? Is Finland really considered the happiest country by our community? It was voted the world’s happiest country. Let’s see whether the NomadMania community agrees.

We aim to publish a new poll every two months with questions on three attributes of countries. In each poll, you will be asked to select up to 5 countries which you feel best represent an attribute. For example, which countries do you think are the friendliest? Which countries do you think have the greatest natural beauty? Which countries are the best value for money?
Papua New Guinea was voted the least safe country in the Numbeo Crime Index. Do you agree?

In all cases, based on the vote of the attendees in our last NomadMania conference in Ouro Preto, we will offer the ‘standard’ 193 UN countries as options for answers; however, we will allow space if you want to note a non-UN area and there will always be room for your travel stories related to your responses, which we believe our community appreciates a lot – we will be publishing some of these as part of our reports.
Our first poll starts with the following three attributes: friendliness, happiness and safety.
Please follow two basic instructions:
- Do not vote for your own country
- Only vote considering countries you have visited (we will factor in ‘visitability’ as part of our statistical analysis)
You don’t have to write anything in the ‘open’ questions but your answers would be greatly appreciated.
So, please go to our first Ultimate Country Poll here!
