Batch 4 – Regional Changes – Asian Countries

09 March, 2026 | Blog, Regions Review

As we continue progressing with the regional changes process, we are now approaching Europe. The updates below are based on our Roadmap and the NomadMania Optimal Score methodology.

Asian countries where ONE NEW region is being added: Bangladesh – Malaysia – Pakistan – South Korea – Sri Lanka  – Taiwan. Additionally Turkiye is getting two new regions.

Based on community input, we are also fixing internal borders for Iraq and Kyrgyzstan.

While Jordan is technically due for one additional region according to the Optimal Score 3.56 we are not entirely sure it is worth doing given the country’s relatively small size and a concentration of main sights in a limited western portion of the country. We would therefore appreciate your feedback. Please vote separately here.

Let’s get down to the details!

Bangladesh

The new region is Rangpur (Dinajpur, Saidpur) which is the northernmost part of the country.

This is also approved by our local NomadMania community of Bangladesh.

Malaysia

We are cutting the eastern part of Malay peninsula in two creating: Pahang (Kuantan) and Kelantan & Terengganu.

Pahang (Kuantan) is inheriting a point.

Pakistan

We are splitting in the largest province of the country Balochistan in two: North (Quetta, Chaman) and South (Gwadar, Turbat).

Balochistan South (Gwadar, Turbat) is inheriting a point.

South Korea

The new region is Buulgyeong (Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam), which represents the country’s second-largest metropolitan area and provides a strong counterweight to Seoul.

It is inheriting a point from the former Gyeongsang region.

Sri Lanka

Central-East is split in two: Central (highlands) and East (east coast & central plain).

Sri Lanka – Central (Kandy, Dambulla, Ella) is inheriting a point.

Taiwan

Former Northwest is split in two: North (Taipei, Taoyuan) and Central (Taichung, Changhua, Kinmen).

Before (3 NM regions) After (4 NM regions)

Taiwan North (Taipei, Taoyuan) will inherit a point, while the central mountainous part of the island will be reassigned from East to Central, where it more accurately belongs geographically.

Turkiye (+2)

Two new regions are created by splitting:

  • Ege into Aegean Coastal (inherits) and Inner Western Anatolia
  • Northeast, Central-East Anatolia into Eastern Anatolia – Upper Euphrates & North East (inherits) and Eastern Anatolia – Far East

We followed the classic subdivisions of Geographical Regions of Turkiye.

Iraq

We are adjusting the internal borders of Iraq to better reflect the country’s cultural, historical, and geographic realities.

Before After

The main idea is to draw a clearer line between the predominantly northern Sunni areas and the southern Shia areas, while keeping Baghdad as a separate region.

Kyrgyzstan

We are also revising the borders of Kyrgyzstan to better reflect its geography and cultural links. The western part of the country is more closely associated with the Fergana Valley than with Bishkek, and the regional boundaries are being updated accordingly.

Before After

Jordan

Jordan currently has 3 NomadMania regions, but its Optimal Score is 3.56, which suggests that a fourth region could be justified.

However, due to the relatively small size of the country and the unproportional concentration of main sights in a limited western portion of the country, we are not entirely sure that adding another region is the right decision. Therefore, we would like to gather additional community feedback. Please vote separately here.

As always, we highly value your feedback — especially from those with strong local knowledge.
