As we continue progressing with the regional changes process, we are now approaching Europe. The updates below are based on our Roadmap and the NomadMania Optimal Score methodology.
European countries where ONE NEW region is being added: Austria – Bulgaria – Croatia – Czechia – Hungary – Portugal – Sweden.
Countries with an improved internal division: Poland and Romania.
We are also still awaiting local input regarding Switzerland and The Netherlands, where one additional region is planned.
Let’s get down to details!
Austria
A new region, Greater Vienna, has been carved out of the former region Austria – Eastern (Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland).
Greater Vienna automatically inherits the existing visited point. As a result, the remaining region is effectively Austria – East – Lower Austria and Burgenland (including Sankt Pölten and Wiener Neustadt), comprising the parts of Lower Austria outside Greater Vienna together with Burgenland.
As a result we have Greater Vienna plus four regions each containing two Austrian states:
- Austria – East – Lower Austria and Burgenland (Sankt Pölten, Wiener Neustadt)
- Austria – South – Carinthia and Styria (Graz, Klagenfurt)
- Austria – North – Salzburg and Upper Austria (Salzburg, Linz)
- Austria – West – Tyrol and Vorarlberg (Innsbruck, Bregenz)
Bulgaria
That’s an interesting one where we mainly followed a geographical approach.

Croatia
This case was already announced at the very beginning of the Regional Review Project in the Guide to Regions Review.
The new region is Kvarner which occupies the central part of the Adriatic coast between Istria and Dalmatia.
Czechia
The case with Czechia is pretty straightforward.
The former NomadMania region Czechia – Central, South, West is cut in Southern Bohemia and Central Bohemia including Prague. The latter one inherits a point.
Hungary
Hungary receives a slight change too.

Szolnok county is moved to Great Plains where it belongs culturally and geographically. Transdanubia remains unchanged.
Portugal
A new region is created Portugal – Lisbon and Vale do Tejo which inherits a point from the former Portugal – Central.
Sweden
Here is a rather dramatic change suggested by our NomadMania members from Sweden.
