Batch 7 – Regional Changes – Australia, NZ and PNG

As we continue progressing with the regional changes process, we are now approaching Oceania. The updates below are based on our Roadmap and the NomadMania Optimal Score methodology.

Australia is getting 5 new regions while New Zealand and Papua New Guinea one each.

Let’s get down to the details!

Australia

There was strong local input for new regions with multiple members sending legit ideas including a group submission as a result of the recent NomadMania meeting in Melbourne. Eventually Australia is getting 6 new regions.

Here are the changes:

  • New South Wales – Eastern is split into: 
    – Greater Sydney
    – New South Wales – Coastal beyond Sydney (Newcastle, Wollongong)
  • New South Wales – Central and Eastern is split into: 
    – New South Wales – Central (Dubbo, Orange, Wagga Wagga)
    – New South Wales – Outback (Broken Hill)
  • Victoria is split into
    – Greater Melbourne
    – Victoria beyond Melbourne (Geelong, Ballarat)
  • Queensland South and Queensland North produce the following four regions: 
    – Queensland – South East and Darling Downs (Brisbane, Toowoomba)
    – Queensland – Central (Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton)
    – Queensland – Far North (Cairns)
    – Queensland – Torres Strait Islands
  • Former Three Western Australian Regions produce the following four regions 
    – Western Australia – South-West (Perth)
    – Western Australia – Gascoyne and Mid-West (Geraldton)
    – Western Australia – Kimberley and Pilbara (Broome)
    – Western Australia – Goldfields-Esperance (Kalgoorlie)

In total there are now 22 regions + additionally 3 essential regions: 

New Zealand

The Northern island gets a new region. North – Centre, South region is split into:

  • Central North Island (Volcanic Plateau & Maori Heartland)
    and
  • Lower North Island (Political & Cultural Core of the country)
    * inherits a point

Papua New Guinea

The new region is Western province.
