Bio

As a child I never went anywhere for my holidays except to various parts of the British Isles. It was only at the age of 18 I went abroad for the first time. The first place I went was Greece and the heat was the thing that struck me most. I was hooked. At 20 I gave up my job after seeing an advert in a magazine. It said NEPAL is the roof of the world - Most people will only see it in an atlas. I have worked my way around the world doing anything from looking after a monkey in Malaysia to a waiter in Kathmandu, to picking fruit in Greece, selling leather crafts in Spain and delivering furniture to the Empire State building. I decided there and then I had to go. I have been travelling ever since. I'm now on country 98 and just about to plan a trip to The Caribbean to bring up my 100. Nowadays I have a family and have to be a bit more selective of the destinations I travel to. I am happy to report i still suffer from Dromomania. One day I will get to South America and my number one on my wish list - The South Pole. The only place I have ever arrived with a smile on my face was The Maldives. I have recently written a book about my toilet issues abroad. It is called CAUGHT SHORT ABROAD. It is a light-hearted read and for any traveller, you will know exactly how I felt. No matter how many places you have been to, at some point you will be CAUGHT SHORT. There is a serious side to my amusing book. I would like to raise awareness that nearly 2 billion people on this planet still do not have adequate toilet facilities, and as a result most of the third world are living with illness caused by inadequate sanitation. A percentage of my book proceeds will go to fund a sanitation program. My next trip will be to the Azores. I set out with the intention of seeing 100 counties before I die. The total various depending on points of view. I had it at 98, but the UN only say 86. That is because I class Cook Islands as a country as I do French Polynesia. If you have been to Tahiti, how can you say you have been to France??? The debate continues when you go to Taiwan, I class it as a new country, some say it is part of China!! That's what is so good about travelling - We all have a different opinion
