"Travel Joy Volume 1: A Concept for Global Travel Excellence"
Frank W. Grosse-Oetringhaus 🇩🇪
After a fifteen-year career in investment banking that took him around the world, Barry transitioned into a second career farming grapes and olives. His Silverwood Ranch olive oil has earned multiple gold medals, and his wine grapes have been bottled into Francis Ford Coppola’s Archimedes wine.
Today, Barry is the founder of Caravan to Class, a nonprofit he launched in 2010 to advance girls’ education in West Africa through the Bourse Jackie program, named in honor of his late wife. His book, Belonging to the World (Girl Friday Books), chronicles his journey around the world following Jackie’s tragic passing in Africa in late 2017.
Why are some countries wealthy while others remain poor? How do political institutions, economic systems, colonialism, slavery, and relations between social groups shape their fortunes? In this book, Juha Suoniemi explores these questions through a journey to all 197 independent countries in the world. Each country has a chapter, combining travel experiences from 2005 to 2023 with an account of its political and economic history. Drawing on what he witnessed, Suoniemi compares cultures and social systems and argues that their differences matter for prosperity. He makes the case that Western institutions and free market capitalism have helped societies flourish, while socialist policies have often held them back. Part travelogue and part examination of global development, the book invites readers to consider why nations have followed different paths and what their histories might reveal about the conditions for a prosperous future.
"The World Is Your Playground"
Ildiko Szabo 🇭🇺
At four, swinging beneath a walnut tree in her Hungarian backyard, Ildiko Szabo dreamed of children living in distant corners of the world. That childhood dream became a mission to see the world for herself.
Born in a Hungarian town during the late communist era, Ildiko did not cross an international border until she was 18. Years later, she became a flight attendant and journeyed across every continent and through 193 countries, traveling solo and choosing connections over comfort. When commercial flights to Socotra, Yemen, ceased, she reached the island aboard a cement cargo boat. Saudi Arabia became her final country. Her book, The World Is Your Playground, transforms this journey into an invitation: follow the dream that calls you, step beyond the familiar, open your heart to the unknown, and discover how far a brave step can take you.

This October, working with fellow FWT members, he launches “Tara”, the sequel to his book “Gala”, which shares lessons from their world travels with a wider public. Also this December, he opens the Filipino World Travellers Museum to show Filipino youth what world travel makes possible. He leads NomadMania’s Sustainable Travel Committee and serves as co-envoy for Australia. A travel community builder, Dondon turns every journey into opportunities and inspiration that empower others to explore with purpose.
New Zealand adventurer Jon Beardmore spent a year reconnecting the world, one letter at a time. Through The Galápagos Postman Challenge, he hand-delivered 55 postcards from a historic Galápagos postbox, travelling over 100,000 miles through 52 countries and all seven continents. Jon undertook the challenge in memory of his father Eric, who died from Motor Neurone Disease (MND), hoping to raise awareness while bringing people together through delivering letters. Along the way, he visited MND/ALS organisations worldwide, sharing their work and raising over $30,000 for MND charities. Each delivery brought encounters, from families receiving unexpected postcards to neighbours, taxi drivers and strangers helping Jon track down recipients. The challenge showed how a simple letter could bring people together across countries and cultures. Through storytelling and public engagement, Jon continues to champion MND awareness and inspire others to embrace purposeful adventure.

Cory Lee 🇺🇸
Cory Lee is an American travel writer and accessibility advocate who has travelled to more than 40 countries across all seven continents while using a wheelchair. Diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy at the age of two, Lee developed a passion for exploring the world despite the significant logistical challenges presented by inaccessible transportation, accommodation, and attractions. Through his travel blog and journalism, he documents both the beauty of destinations and the practical realities of accessible travel. His work has appeared in publications including Condé Nast Traveler, The Points Guy, AFAR, and others. Lee is a Webby Award winner and a two-time Lowell Thomas Award winner for Best Travel Blog. His significance to the travel community extends beyond his own adventures: he has helped demonstrate that accessible travel is a mainstream travel issue, encouraging destinations and tourism companies to consider travellers with disabilities.
Justin Murphy is a travel storyteller and filmmaker who has turned his passion for documenting journeys into a full-time creative pursuit. After spending several years making and sharing videos from his travels on social media, Murphy decided to commit himself fully to combining travel and storytelling. His work focuses on using visual storytelling to capture experiences and places while connecting audiences with the people and cultures encountered along the way. Murphy has also sought to make his travel work serve a larger purpose through the creation of the Murph Foundation. His story illustrates the increasingly important role of digital creators in contemporary travel: rather than simply writing about destinations after returning home, creators such as Murphy can bring audiences along virtually through video and social media. His transition from traveler and hobbyist filmmaker toward full-time travel storytelling demonstrates how digital platforms have created new possibilities for turning exploration into a creative career.
Michael Angelo Zervos is a Guinness World Record holder, filmmaker, speaker and author who has visited every country on earth. The journey began with a single question: after coming through a lengthy period of depression, he wanted to know what people across every country would name as the happiest moment of their lives. He asked thousands of them, from Tuvalu to Bolivia to North Korea, and recorded what they said. Those stories continue to draw more than 20 million views a month across social platforms and have been adapted into his first book, The Happiest Moment of Your Life: True Stories from People I Met in Every Country, out from Penguin Life on February 23, 2027. A dual Greek and American citizen, Michael was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and has lived in six cities in the past ten years. He has directed film and television for more than fifteen years.

His importance to travel media comes from making the journey itself—the aircraft, airports, routes, and aviation culture—as fascinating as the destination.

Gonçalo Runa is a Portuguese world traveler associated with the international community of highly experienced global explorers. His travels reflect the country-by-country approach practiced by many members of the NomadMania community, where exploration extends beyond conventional tourist destinations to include remote regions, unusual territories, and difficult-to- reach places. Runa’s relevance to travelers comes from this comprehensive approach to seeing the world: travel becomes an ongoing educational project rather than a collection of vacations. Travelers pursuing extensive international journeys often rely on communities of experienced explorers to exchange information about visas, borders, transportation, safety, and unusual destinations. Runa represents this quieter side of travel culture, in which the traveler may not necessarily be a mainstream celebrity or social-media personality but has accumulated substantial first-hand knowledge through years of exploration. His example demonstrates that travel expertise can be built through persistence, curiosity, and direct experience.
Paramvir Singh Beniwal, known online as Passenger Paramvir, is an Indian travel vlogger and storyteller who has explored more than 120 countries. He has traveled to destinations that many tourists consider challenging, including Syria, Somalia, Lebanon, and Ethiopia’s Omo Valley. With millions of followers and billions of views, he has built a large international audience. His work is particularly relevant to travelers because he combines adventure with educational storytelling. Rather than simply showing attractive landscapes, he tries to explain the people and circumstances behind them. His stated long-term ambition is to visit all 197 countries.

From the Virunga Mountains to equatorial rainforests and major river systems Obed specializes in making the ground-level impossible happen: securing access, authorizations, and safe passage through areas most operators avoid. He coordinates logistics across borders and conservation zones with thin infrastructure and high stakes. That has made him a leading voice in Congo Basin conservation working at the frontline of protecting one of the world’s most critical ecosystems. His focus stays on Africa’s Indigenous and tribal communities as true partners. For Obed, being a fixer means building trust with everyone involved, so a trip leaves behind more than footprints.

Ankitha Rajendaran 🇦🇪
Ankitha is an Indian traveller, marketer and writer based in Dubai who has visited 134 countries so far while also working a full-time career. Traveling on an Indian passport means every trip comes with its own combination of visas, paperwork, waiting, fees and logistical gymnastics – but she has never seen that as a reason to make her world smaller. Her travels range from remote and least-visited destinations to wildlife-filled wilderness and places that rarely make the usual travel lists. She is drawn to the parts of travel that cannot easily be turned into content: difficult journeys, ordinary moments, complicated histories and the privilege of being able to go somewhere at all. Through Wayfarer Footprints, she writes about traveling widely without pretending every trip is effortless or every destination needs optimizing. Her philosophy is simple: travel outside the script, in whatever way makes sense for you.
As a child, Prashanth’s favourite book was an atlas his father gave him. Somewhere along the way, that became a very expensive life plan. He has travelled to 142 countries on an Indian passport while holding a full-time job. He left aerospace engineer for marketing just so he could work remotely & travel. His goal is to visit every UN country – a promise to his late father. His mother is his favorite travel companion with her own goal: 50 countries on an Indian passport. Prashanth believes nobody owns what “real travel” looks like, and passport stamps are not character development. Some of the kindest people he has met never left their village. His favourite messages are from strangers saying his travels made them want to see more of the World.

193 countries, 3 small kids (11, 9 and 2 years old), and a full-time office job. Having visited her last country PNG in 2026, Elena became the youngest Swedish woman to visit every UN country and the youngest mother to bring her kids extensively on adventures to some of the world’s least-visited countries, including Mauritania (at 3 months old), Socotra (at 4 months old), Afghanistan (at 7 months old), DPRK (at 9 months old), Turkmenistan, Nauru, Pakistan, Sudan etc. Even with kids, Elena always travelled on a tight budget, choosing Couchsurfing and homestays to stay with locals and immerse herself in local cultures and traditions. Elena always believed that a girl does not need to choose between her dream of travelling the world and having kids. Despite the difficulties and societal expectations of motherhood, she proved that a mother can balance family, work and travelling the world.
Growing up in a small village in Poland, Kamil Michalak was fascinated by the world long before he had the chance to explore it. He first traveled abroad at 12, and by 2012 had visited just five countries. Today, at 35, he has reached 177 — and, constantly on the road, that number keeps rising. Next year, he aims to complete every country in the world and become the youngest Pole in history to do so. His journey has taken him to over 120 countries within a single year, to every country in Oceania through two round-the-world journeys in just three months, and has seen him hitchhike across Afghanistan during the Taliban-imposed internet blackout. He is currently continuing his journey across more than 20 African countries. For Kamil, travel is ultimately about people, cultures and curiosity — and a lifelong habit of setting the bar almost impossibly high, then refusing to stop until he finds a way over it.
After visiting all 193 thrice, Slawek (who is half-Polish and half-Kenyan) was seeing the law of diminishing returns kick-in. Going on months-long cross Continental trips was becoming too repetitive. So in March 2025 he set himself a new Challenge. To see 1000 sports events, at least one in each 193. His initial estimate was that the Challenge will take him 8-10 years to complete. However, after only 1,5 years, he has already seen close to 500 events in 97 countries, so he is at his half-way point already. His most recent events have included the following Games: Gay in Valencia, Maccabiah in Tel Aviv, European Universities in Salerno, the Commonwealth in Glasgow, Centroamericano & Caribe in Santo Domingo, Mediterranean in Taranto, the Nomad Games in Kyrgizstan, and the Juegos Suramericanos in Santa Fe, Argentina. Slawek now thinks his 1000 sports events in 193 Challenge will likely be completed in 2027 or 2028, also marking his 4th Round of all 193:-)))
For the past 25 years, he has travelled to 190 of the 193 UN member states, making travel one of the defining passions of his life. He is a family man and proud father of two boys, aged 6 and 14. Together with his wife, he loves showing them the world and creating unforgettable experiences. 2026 has been his most active and incredible year of travel ever. It began with a six-week journey through Australia and Indonesia, filled with new cultures, breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable adventures. In recent months, he has focused on exploring Europe more intensely than ever. From the Arctic landscapes of Northern Norway to the southern coast of Spain, he has crossed borders, embraced new cultures and sought adventure at every opportunity. For him, travel is about discovering the world, sharing experiences with those he loves and creating memories that last a lifetime.
Alex Trach is an exceptional explorer who has pushed the boundaries of travel from Central Asia onto the world stage. Driven by a fascination with ancient civilizations, history, and remote wildlife, Alex seeks meaningful encounters with some of the world’s most remarkable and rarely visited places. A trailblazer for Uzbek travelers, he has become a prominent ambassador for Uzbekistan within the international travel community. His recent achievements are equally impressive. According to NomadMania statistics, Alex visited more countries and more new regions than any other traveler last year, while ranking among the top three in total regions visited. His extraordinary reach and spirit of exploration make him a remarkable traveler.
